THE SPANISH WOMEN’S WATER POLO TEAM WINS THE WORLD WATER POLO LEAGUE SUPERFINAL
On November 6, the Spain game against Hungary was played in Tenerife. It was a very long match and was not decided until the penalty shootout. The penalty that decided the end of the match was Martina Terré stooping a shot from the opponent.
The first two goals were from the Hungarians, specifically Panna Pocze. Gradually the Spanish were waking up and equalized the score by scoring two more. The Hungarians were very vigilant and managed to score another goal leaving the score 3 to 2. Paula Leitón of the Spanish team returned to equalize the score. Here ended the first quarter of the match. The remaining quarters of the match were similar to the first, scoring and making things difficult for the rival.
The match was intense, and both teams were hungry for victory. During the match, there were different stops in which the sports committee analyzed some of the plays. The last quarter was especially intense. With five minutes to go, the Spanish team had a two-point lead but in the last minute, the Hungarians managed to equalize, which meant that the penalty shootout was about to start. The Spaniards feared the penalty shootout as they started weakly, but they finished with a last save by Martina Tarré, stopping a kick from the opponent, and leading the Spanish team to victory.
At the end of the match, the water polo players came out to the press conferences, very excited and tired, explaining that they had suffered a lot during the match and that the victory was more than deserved. They also reminded us that a match is not the same from the inside as it is on television.
